We attended Surgical AI & Telesurgery Days 2026 in Ghent, Belgium. One of the most important gatherings in surgical AI globally to connect with the researchers, clinicians, and builders shaping the future of the operating room.

Three days. Two tracks. One moment that said everything.

On Day 2, we watched an AI co-pilot assist a live robotic kidney surgery in real time — surgical phase recognition, anatomical detection, and AR overlay running simultaneously on a patient at AZORG Hospital, streamed to the conference floor. It was a demonstration of where the field is genuinely headed.

What we heard consistently across every conversation with groups from Johns Hopkins, UCL, Imperial College, NUS Singapore, and TU Dresden was a version of the same insight:

The models exist. The data to make them trustworthy doesn't.

Not for open surgery. Not for the hundreds of millions of procedures performed annually across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa largely undocumented, largely invisible to the benchmarks that today's surgical AI is built on.

That is precisely the gap Nuevata is built to fill.

We left Ghent with research collaboration conversations underway across four continents, a clearer sense of where Nuevata fits in the global surgical AI ecosystem, and renewed conviction that the work we are doing in India, capturing real-world, open surgical procedures at scale that matters beyond our immediate market.

More to share from these conversations in the months ahead.

Nuevata Innovations is building an ambient surgical intelligence platform capturing intraoperative video through head-mounted 4K cameras and turning it into structured, actionable data for surgical performance, documentation, and continuous learning.
